How many Days Should we Workout in a Week? (Fully Explained)

One of the most popular questions people ask us is that how many days should we workout in a week? Some prefer hitting the gym every day (excluding Sundays) without fail and train each body part, while few skip a day in between two workouts.

So, what is better? In this article, we’re going to discuss the number of times we should hit the gym to maximize our gains.

How many Days Should we Workout in a Week?

The answer to this question is pretty straightforward. The number of days you need to work out depends upon your body structure and the kind of person you are.

Getting a bit confused? Let me clarify.

Building up a physique requires time and commitment. We all have our personal goals and jobs to look after, which make it difficult to make time for the gym. If you’ve got enough time to look after yourself, we’d recommend hitting the gym six times a week.

Even if you can’t dedicate six days in a week due to your other engagements, only 3 days of workout in a week is sufficient. Needless to say, the latter will experience slower gains, but it’s better than never.

Your Body Type also Determines How many times to Workout in a Week

Do you know humans have 3 body types? They are:

  • Over Weight (Endomorph)
  • Average Weight (Mesomorph)
  • Under Weight (Ectomorph)

If you’re an Endomorph, exercise as much as you can and try to hit the gym 6 times a week. You need to burn the excess calories, so try to maximize your training.

For a Mesomorph, i.e. someone who is relatively fit, 4 days of workout in a week is enough. Although, he/she can go six times without affecting gains.

If you’re an Ectomorph, your main target should be to gain muscle and weight. We’ll recommend you focus on increasing your diet and train light. For an underweight person, hitting the gym 4-5 times a week is enough.

You can also differentiate your training based on your body type. Do what works best for you.

Wrapping it up

The number of days you should workout in a week depends upon your current situation, but to ensure maximum gains at least 4-5 days per week is important. Plus, focus on the duration of your workout as well.
